Inspired by this, the XWiki community along with several other Open Source projects would like to organize a developer room to explore the theme of "Open Source Software for Collaboration and Content Management”, at FOSDEM 2023.

The devroom had a growing success since 2019 ; as such, we would be happy to continue talks on this subject for the edition to come.

The main goal of this devroom is to discuss and present new software, tools, techniques, and methods when it comes to building Open Source software for collaboration. Over the past years, with challenges on EU digital sovereignty following the COVID crisis, our ecosystem has seen a significant growth, partly because of subsidies. This has uncovered new areas of discussion and challenges that fit the scope of FOSDEM :

• Protocols for interoperability between collaboration platforms
• Empowering users with new ways to collaborate securely (zero knowledge collaboration)
• Technical solutions to provide support for multiple collaboration platforms to work together

Along these subjects, we want to keep subjects that have been structural for the devroom up to now :

• New projects presentation
• Self-hosted platforms
• Secure collaboration
• Collaborative applications
• Connectors & Integrations
• Knowledge management techniques
• Protocols for collaboration
• …

This room co-organized by the following projects (in alphabetical order)

Each project will participate in the devroom CFP and the evaluation of the proposals.

Why does it fit FOSDEM?

• The devroom allows to exchange and present technical solutions to interoperate Open Source platforms, and that are currently in use in collaboration platforms
• Free Software contributors are given an opportunity to understand and participate to collaborative software projects
• The challenges can be explained to a very technical audience able to provide suggestions and ideas
• Projects sharing common goals would get an opportunity to meet and start collaborating

Special requirements

We are aiming this year at 8 to 10 conferences (25 mins for the presentation + 5 mins for switching), which would correspond to 4 to 5h of content. As such, a half-day devroom on Saturday would be best in our opinion.
